A new factory coming up in GIDC Vatva, Ahmedabad whose owners wanted to design a dynamic workspace for them and their staff, which was going to be a big upgrade from their existing office. Since the office was located inside the factory premises, the client didn’t want any windows inside- which left us with one open face, the west facade which opens towards the road. Strategically, we decided to make the maximum of that, and decided to give large openings, for maximum penetration of sunlight inside. With Large glass openings also come the harsh west sun, especially in the summer months. To control the light penetration, especially in the director’s cabin, we introduced a screen, coupled with creepers and low maintenance outdoor plants, which turned out to be the focal point of the entire elevation.

The interior design was envisaged a very functional and minimalistic approach, with neutral colors, clean forms and a dash of green, to create a low maintenance space. The vertical circulation of and the bridge connectivity were the focal point in this space, hence painted a bright eye catching color. All internal partitions are also seamless glass partitions, adding to the sense of transparency and lightness. Another strategy employed to beat the dinginess and darkness of a windowless space was to introduce skylights, which would flood the space with natural light. the space planning was kept very simple, with clear circulation and seating patterns. The double heights incorporated added to the grandeur of the workspace, adding layers of connectivity between the two floors, and thus between two rungs in the hierarchal ladder.
