A farmhouse was to be designed in a bare piece of land, where mango plantation was to be planted. We decided to place the built on the North-West Corner of the plot, in response to an already existing entrance gate.
Right from the gate, an elaborate journey was planned to reach the built-where while approaching you see the farmhouse slowly emerging from the green backdrop. The entrance walkway was also consciously kept long to be able to soak in the entire grandeur of the entrance porch.
Being a farmhouse, it was envisaged as a largely semi open space, covered with a Mangalore tile roof and metal columns with stone bases. The only closed spaces were the bedrooms, built with exposed Dhrangadhra stone masonary. The entire built was organized around a central courtyard, facilitating air circulation and getting the greens in the inner spaces.
The house opened to the swimming pool and lawns placed on the northern side while the services such as the kitchens and staircase were pushed to the southern side, to minimize heat gain inside.
The stone walls also acted as effective thermal insulators both in the summer and winter months, while the brick jaali envelope added a charm as well as helped in maintaining the temperature and air circulation throughout the building.
