Engimach is an engineering and mechanical expo, happening in Gandhinagar, Gujarat, every two years.
A temporary structure exhibiting the firm and its ideologies, was the task which we were endowed with, for Luova Technologies, based out of Ahmedabad and Vadodara, an automation startup helmed by young engineers, who wanted a light, unique design, who believe in functionality and cost effectiveness. The idea was to do something different, at the same time working on a very tight budget of only INR 1 Lakh (all inclusive), Luova being a startup, funds were hard to come by.
We decided to do away with the general perception of making over the top ply boxes, with brandings all around, with lots of jazz and bling to attract consumers in an exhibition.
We were provided with a corner space of 10’x20’, with a height restriction of 12’. Keeping the corner free was our main concern, to take maximum advantage of the corner location. A cantilever anchored from the other two corners was envisaged which opens up the entire structure, welcoming consumers. Thus came two anchor corner points, from which M.S. box sections would cantilever, and doubly curved surfaces, with a perforated cover, providing the enclosure. The materials used for the base here were mostly reused ply sheets and the covering was done by tensile stretchable clothes lines, to help stay within the limits of the said budget. Two surfaces were used for in built display of their screens and gadgets, which had to be predesigned and executed.
The color schemes was also chosen from the logo, blue, green and white. The design was only 40% of the challenge. The main challenge was getting it executed from scratch in 24 hours, right from carpentry to welding to painting and finishing, and to be executed in such a way that it can be dismantled in 8 hours!
